About Get Lost

After 45+ years of experience in the industry, we have built Get Lost for a simpler kind of New Zealand adventure. The kind where the van does not take over the trip. The kind where the road, the weather, the water, the small towns, the quiet stops, and the places you find by accident are still the main event. We believe campervan hire should make that easier — not more complicated.

So we have focused on the things that matter most: modern vans, practical comfort, clear information, flexible systems, and a smooth journey from arrival to adventure.

About Get Lost

Get Lost began in 2026, when friends Rob and Michael caught up for a beer. They naturally got talking about campervans, having worked together in the high-end campervan rental industry for 15 years.

Both were enthusiastic about getting back into the industry, and Michael had recently noticed a growing trend in Europe: travellers were going back to basics and choosing vans that were simpler, easier to drive, and gave them more flexibility on their road trips.

The more they spoke, the more the idea grew. Why not offer an outstanding product in this space? There were already plenty of small campervans on the market, but many were built on older vehicles, uncomfortable to drive, and marketed mainly to younger travellers.

Freedom is when nothing is in the way.

A good road trip should feel open, easy, and unforced.
That does not happen by accident. It happens when the essentials are thought through — the booking is easy, the van is reliable, the handover makes sense, the details are useful, and you feel ready enough to let the road lead a little.

That is why Get Lost has been built around simple ideas:

Make it easy

Travel should feel exciting, not complicated. We keep the booking, the van, the handover, and the road ahead as simple as possible.
The easier the journey feels, the faster the real experience can begin.

Good gear,
no gimmicks

Our vans are practical, comfortable, and thoughtfully set up for real New Zealand road trips. Everything has a purpose.

Tell it straight

No confusing costs, hidden catches, or vague policies.
We say what is included, what is not, and what travellers need to know before they hit the road.

Comfort
without excess

Everything you need, nothing you don’t.
We believe in warmth, quality, and thoughtful simplicity — never clutter, waste, or overdone luxury.

Our promise:
Easy adventure.

They decided to build the campervans on brand-new Toyota vans, with a clever interior that would be genuinely enjoyable to travel in. Everything travellers needed, without the excess, so they could spend less time managing the van and more time enjoying the beauty of New Zealand.

As the idea began to take shape, Hess joined Rob and Michael to nut out how Get Lost would look, feel, and connect with travellers. Together, they developed a campervan experience that would feel modern, reliable, easy, and full of warmth—from the design of the vans to the booking process and every part of the customer journey.

A joyful, worry-free trip that lets you Get Lost in New Zealand.
No time was wasted. We partnered with Toyota, built our prototype, and moved into production, starting the summer of 2026/27 with a fleet of 50 brand-new campervans.

We are incredibly proud of what we have created and cannot wait to see you out on the road, exploring New Zealand exactly the way you choose.

And should anything trouble you along the way, our nationwide support network has your back.

Built by people who believe
in the road.

We have built something that gave people freedom without confusion, comfort without clutter, and a van experience that helped the real trip happen — rather than getting in the way of it.
